The Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS) is led by Director Mallory Johnson Ph.D. CAPS is a key program of the AIDS Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco. CAPS includes five cores providing shared services to foster scientific interaction, stimulate innovation, and enhance the quality of research.
The Administrative Core provides scientific leadership, monitoring and evaluation, and organizational management with fiscal oversight and administration of personnel and space.
The Developmental Core supports trainees and scientists in their efforts to conduct high-impact, innovative, and timely research with the highest ethical standards by providing pilot funding, peer review, linkages to training opportunities, and Town Halls on key topics in HIV-related research.
The Methods Core ensures scientific rigor, development and application of innovative and optimal scientific methods, and use of secure data collection and management by providing expert methodological support through seminars, training, consultation, and peer review.
The Community Engagement Core brings high-impact HIV prevention science to the community most affected by HIV, integrates community perspectives into HIV research, and fosters community collaborations.
The Intervention and Implementation Science Core is new and evolved from CAPS research on social-behavioral questions, interventions, and implementation science including policy and effectiveness trials. It will galvanize interdisciplinary advances in HIV prevention science by leveraging the latest science and fostering synergy and collaboration across research disciplines.
