CAPS Community Engagement Core
The Community Engagement Core works to improve the translation of meaningful high-impact HIV science into practice. The Core builds capacity and collaborations among researchers and communities to support community engagement in research.
Consultations
- Provides technical assistance (TA) to community partners and HIV researchers
- Conducts periodic faculty and community needs assessments and integrates findings into our work
Web and Social Media
- Operates the Division’s website
- Communicates with the community and stakeholders through e-mail and postings on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube
Community Engagement in Research
- Coordinates a Community Advisory Board (CAB) to obtain important information on Division of Prevention Science research and community needs
- Fosters collaboration and facilitates community-academic research partnerships by participating in local/regional planning groups and councils and other community meetings
- Communicates significant community developments and issues to Division of Prevention Science researchers through monthly “Word on the Street” reports
- Sponsors Community Town Halls
Dissemination
- Develops a variety of materials (e.g., fact sheets in English and Spanish, research and resources booklets for National HIV/AIDS Awareness Days, videos about relevant research projects, and quarterly e-Newsletters disseminating the latest information on HIV science.
- Attends and exhibits at conferences (e.g., U.S. Conference on AIDS, National HIV Prevention Conference, etc.)
- Develops and maintains resource manuals, research reports, and toolkits about community-engaged research approaches
- Sponsors the Innovation Dissemination Award for Division of Prevention Science researchers
